Ivan Weiss and Michael Kryenbühl started their studio Johnson / Kingston in 2012. In self-initiated as well as in commissioned projects and their teaching, they focus on the intersection of design and technology in contemporary graphic design.
In a long term project on digital publishing, they explored the potential of web based and networked media in design. With an interest in coding and tool building, they develop projects in digital and printed media, custom workflows and typefaces. In their client related work, they focus on questions of contemporary forms of identities for cultural and educational institutions and explore new aesthetic and technical approaches in image making.
Their work has been shown internationally and has been granted with the Swiss Design Award twice, in 2017 and 2010. Since 2017 they hold a regular professorship for communication design with a focus on new media at Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhein Germany. In 2022 Michael Kühni and Fabio Furlani joined the studio.
