W. Patrick McCray is a professor in the Department of History at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Originally trained as a scientist, McCray’s research focuses on the history of science and technology, and he has a courtesy appointment with UCSB’s Media Arts and Technology Program. In 2020, McCray published Making Art Work: How Cold War Engineers and Artists Forged a New Creative Culture with MIT Press, which focuses on the activities and experiences of engineers and scientists who collaborate with artists.
