Jojanneke Gijsen, Miriam Rasch, and Harma Staal work at the Research Station of the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. The Research Station develops materials, workshops, and learning lines for doing research in art and design, aimed at both students and teachers. The Circle of Doing Research came out of extended conversations across all the different programmes taught in the academy, both with course leaders, tutors, and students. Some of the students (by now alumni) and their research trajectories are presented in the book, as illustrative and multi-disciplinary examples.
