Otto Kauppinen

Otto Kauppinen is a doctoral student at the Theatre Faculty of Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno (JAMU) where he finished his masters degree in theatre dramaturgy. He is interested in political art (especially theatre) and in his research, he explores the emergence of relational aesthetics in contemporary theatre and the consequent question of politicality of participation. He worked as a dramaturg for the socially engaged theatre group Divadlo Feste theatre in Brno and with the physical theatre group Divadlo Continuo Theatre in Malovice as a dramaturg and director. Since 2019 he has been part of Agronauts* Collective art group that facilitated international art symposium Crossing Borders and uses the surrounding environment as a focus point for artists from different fields to work together. The group organized an exhibition at FFA Gallery (Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology) in April 2022. In 2022 Otto co-founded Divadlo Láska Theatre in Prague and has worked as a dramaturg there ever since. He is bilingual and has translated 17 contemporary Finnish theatre plays into Czech. For his translations, he has been awarded the Evald Schorm Prize for young talented Czech playwrights and translators.
