Nina Wakeford is Professor of Art and Director of Research in the Department of Art at Goldsmiths, University of London, where her interdisciplinary practice bridges art, feminist and queer theory, and spatial inquiry. Drawing on her sociological training, Wakeford’s work explores how histories and infrastructures of gender and sexual dissidence are materially and conceptually inscribed into cities and cultural spaces. Her 2019 artist’s book Our Pink Depot: The Gay Underground emerges from sustained engagement with queer counterpublics and the hidden architectures of London’s LGBTQ+ social worlds, challenging conventional monumentality and the politics of memory. Her research-based art has been exhibited internationally, and she has co-initiated the Swiss Pavilion’s project The Unfinished Business of Living Together for the 2026 Venice Biennale, a collective exploration of coexistence, tolerance, and social division.
