Dr Magdalena Ziółkowska (b. 1981) is an academic lecturer, art critic, curator, manager, group trainer, and mediator. Her work focuses on the intersection of contemporary and historical archival, artistic, discursive, curatorial, and exhibition practices. She is a graduate of the Institute of Art History at the University of Warsaw, the School for Social Research in Warsaw, and the Curatorial Training Programme at the de Appel arts centre in Amsterdam. Between 2006 and 2010, she was a guest curator at the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, where she realized projects related to the work of Jerzy Ludwiński and Minerva Cuevas, as well as the exhibition Andrzej Wróblewski. To the Margin and Back. As a curator at the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź (2008–2014), she curated exhibitions addressing archival practices and institutional history featuring artists such as Marysia Lewandowska, Sanja Iveković, and Hüseyin Bahri Alptekin, alongside international projects including Art Always Has Its Consequences (2008–2010) and Eyes Looking for a Head to Inhabit (2011). From 2015 to 2018, she served as Director of the “Bunkier Sztuki” Gallery of Contemporary Art in Kraków, and from 2020 to 2022 as Head of the Textile Art Department at the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź. She edited the reader Plasticity of the Planet. On Environmental Challenge for Art Institutions (Milan, 2019), and curated projects including Bownik. Undercoat (CMTW, Łódź, 2022; Manggha Museum, Kraków, 2023) and Sława Harasymowicz. Klinerwerk (KZ-Gedenkstätte, Hamburg, 2024). She is a board member of AICA Poland (2022–2025), the Advisory Board of the Cricoteka Centre for the Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor in Kraków (since 2025), and the International Catalogue Raisonné Association in London. Recipient of the Jerzy Stajuda Art Criticism Prize for 2024. Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Painting and Curatorial Practices at the Academy of Art in Szczecin.
