Lisa East

I am a settler living on the traditional dish with one spoon wampum and treaty 13 lands of the Anishnaabe, Haudenonsaunee, Mississaugas of the Credit, the Métis, Inuit and the many First Nations peoples in Tkaronto, also known as Toronto.

Grounded in a feminist documentary approach, as an artist, photographer and filmmaker I seek out the energy within while acknowledging the power that images hold to create a visual record. Across contexts and mediums, my personal and professional work engages with themes of connection, liminality, and animism and I cherish the collaboration that is image-making. I respect the process of working with clients to illuminate their deep, emotional and metaphysical aspects – qualities which are often kept hidden – as a way to affirm their sense of self.
