Kseniia Bespalova is a PhD candidate at the University of Groningen and a film curator. Their PhD research examines how contemporary artists’ films from the colonised lands of the former Soviet Union treat the memory of colonial exploitation as materially sedimented in landscapes, bodies, and audio-visual archives. Their recent article “On Ruins, Debris, and Ghosts: The Temporality of Disaster in the Film Aral, Fishing in the Invisible See” was published in Apparatus. Film, Media and Digital Cultures of Central and Eastern Europe. As a film curator, Kseniia collaborated with Eye Filmmuseum, Moving Arts Center Amsterdam, Sarajevo Film Festival, and art collective Fuck Healing(?).
