Janus Lafontaine Carboni (she/they) is an architect, educator, and researcher crafting queer and trans* architectural theories through autotheoretical, dirty, fleshy, oral, and embodied methods. Their work investigates the politics and infrastructures of architectural history, reproductive labor, trans* and queer love, and performativity. Writing is their main practice. Their work has been published in books and journals including Architecture and Culture, Charrette, Plan Libre, L’Atelier, Trans Magazine, GTA Papers, and Tabula Rasa. Together with Denise Bertschi and Nitin Bathla, they co-edited Unearthing Traces: Dismantling the Imperialist Entanglements of Archives, Landscapes, and the Built Environment (EPFL Press, 2023). They are also a co-conspirator in the curatorial project “Public Affairs” with Román Alonso and Paule Perron.They are currently an SNSF postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University, working on a book that gathers fragments of historiographies of queer and trans* love in Berlin and New York—and writes with them. Beyond that, she dreams of making a living out of poetry.
