Andrea Gibson

Andrea Gibson (1975–2025) was one of the most celebrated and influential spoken-word poets of their generation. Renowned for their live performances, Gibson redefined what it means to attend a “poetry show,” blending the intimacy of song with the power of verse. Their work is marked by raw honesty and vulnerability, exploring LGBTQ+ issues, gender, feminism, mental health, and the dismantling of oppressive social systems. The winner of the first Women of the World Poetry Slam, Gibson was also recognized on the LGBTQ Out100 and featured on BBC, NPR, and C‑SPAN. Author of seven award-winning books and seven albums, Gibson was appointed Poet Laureate of Colorado in 2023, championing arts, education, and accessibility of poetry as a living practice.
